Very nice sequel. The first part was fine 90's pulp and Peter Medak goes one step further. Obviously has to do it with less budget, but that also has its charm. In any case, little has been cut in terms of effects, with some spectacular results. Fine body-bursting gore with slimy tentacle work. The only point of criticism is the role of Madsen, who returns in this second part, like two other colleagues. Too bad he can't muster the motivation to play his part properly, unlike the rest of the cast. Feels too good for this kind of pulp apparently. Newsflash: part 1 already was.

Better than expected.

Gets much lower grades than part 1, but to be honest I think this one is even slightly better. More love for horror and I got through this much easier. The choice to get rid of all that bad CGI ghost is well done.

It's just a shame that the acting performances of a lot of actors and actresses are really bad. Only Williamson, Cromwell and Dzundza seem to really want to. Madsen seems to be reluctant to stand here, Henstridge is really awful, Lazard is awful too and Helgenberger seems to have given up too.

Effects are even slightly better, while the budget is smaller. Although the landing on Mars was not very good in the beginning. The spaceship seemed to be made of paper. Fortunately, the film quickly turns into really nice designs of the aliens with which the love for horror is really palpable.

The designs are also nice and clumsy and the highlight of the film. What is unfortunate about the film is that the previous part in its concept also did nice things, but the research on such an alien is not really present here. Now it's mainly just plenty of horror/sci-fi violence with a bit of the same investigative budget wrapped around it.

The final phase is fun, although the film starts off quite boring. Only when the designs make the entrance does the film really progress, a pity that the film is also quite often slowed down by many poor acting performances. I myself am not a proponent of unnecessary nudity and that is certainly present in the beginning unfortunately.

Oh well, in the end it was a bit more entertaining than with part 1.

They could fuck the human race into extinction...

Don't think it's bad either. Species II clearly wants to be more of a horror film than its predecessor, and it succeeds, because the gory special effects were not disappointing. In this sequel, some astronauts return from a Mars mission and are infected by alien DNA. The consequences are obvious : this time we have to deal with a very horny male alien, who produces offspring faster than his shadow. A B-movie with a fairly weak story, but I did enjoy it. Madsen and Williamson form an almost comical buddy team.
