Bought, original soundtrack but no German subs. By the way, a very decent transfer.

I bought the Blue Underground Blu-ray of this a while ago and watched it this afternoon.

Was a bit disappointing, especially because I had actually imagined a completely different kind of film.
In fact, this is not a real western par excellence.
This was mainly because it did not take place in the Wild West or Mexico, but in Spain, which resulted in:

hardly any real cowboys (except for the three fellow thugs in the last part), no western towns, but typical Spanish white buildings and - unfortunately - an unnecessary and cruel bullfight scene, where we see the bull still half alive with spears being dragged away in his body and a rope attached to his horns. Bah! Scandalous!

Nero played well and it struck me even more than usual that he is so similar to Terence Hill. If I hadn't known better, I would have sworn at times that I was watching Hill.

Tina Aumont is well cast as the femme fatale and manages to captivate both the film characters and the viewer almost immediately. Wow! What a woman!

Kinski - it should be noted - actually only had a relatively small role in the second half of the film, but he was again very psychotic. Remains a special actor and appearance!

The story itself was something different and it can still be called original to base it on the opera Carmen and move it to a western-like setting. Unfortunately, they forgot to turn it into a real Spaghetti Western and there was way too much melodrama in it.

Furthermore, the fight between Nero and Kinski was difficult to follow, as the image was much too dark.

A fiver, or 2.5 stars.

Mediocre western with a very long first half where only the love, obstacles and chemistry between protagonists Franco Nero and Tina Aumont are approached. Klaus Kinski only appears in the second part, who actually only has a small role. The film does not really captivate and lacks a real western atmosphere. Tina Aumont plays the graceful lady who has her own agenda, but sometimes plays her role a bit over the top, which can sometimes cause irritation. The ending is somewhat surprising. 5/10
