A sort of Poe adaptation, though, more of a hodgepodge of elements from various Poe stories (including, of course, that eternal black cat) that doesn't have all that much to do with the original story of The Tomb of Ligeia. It was atmospheric, with beautiful shots of English ruins, mansions and landscapes, but also a bit slow and boring. And yes, it's Roger Corman and Vincent Price, so you kind of know what kind of film it is. Vincent Price is certainly the eccentric widower in the lead role, whose wife Ligeia is dead although it turns out she's not as dead as one thinks. We see how he and his new wife Rowena slowly become captivated by the presence of Ligeia, who, among other things, walks around hauntingly incarnated as a cat. This middle section was a bit of a tough sit, with fortunately a nice resolution. Decent, but not really great, like pretty much everything I've seen from Corman - again, a barely passable grade.

I found this horror film starring Vincent Price rather mediocre. The story doesn't always flow, and the middle section, in particular, is rather lacking. Ultimately, the film is a poor performer in terms of story, horror, or suspense. On all three levels, the film fails to deliver. I also didn't find the punch line particularly compelling. The cast is decent, and thankfully, Vincent Price adds some real punch. The locations, sets, and atmosphere are the film's strengths. 5/10

I've truly become a Vincent Price fan. The way he throws himself into a role. Of course, it has that theatricality that was typical of that era. I think of him as the Nicolas Cage of the 50s/60s.

I have to admit, I'm not a true Edgar Allan Poe. This film, too, was atmospheric, and at one point, you could even call it suspenseful. But it didn't really impress me.

2.5*
