"A funny thing happened on the way to the bus station."

Worthless movie.

I have absolutely nothing to do with Madonna because she is very annoying and she can't act either. A comedy of nothing and I can give nothing but a 0.5.

On the one hand I also see that the story is not exactly bad and the acting is downright ridiculous. But when I first watched this movie I was 11 years old and I was still in my Madonna phase. Then I absolutely loved the movie. And that feeling from then comes back a little bit when I watch the film. But I can imagine that people watching this movie for the first time think it's a terrible movie.

A wonderful piece of eighties pop culture/extravaganza. For director James Foley - friend of Madonna and then husband Sean Penn - it was his first major movie. He made his debut with At Close Range in which Penn plays the leading role and Madonna can be heard on the soundtrack.

It is smoothly depicted, as it should be with such action comedies. Of course, everything a superstar like Madonna did/does is screened under a magnifying glass. Something like tall trees that catch a lot of wind and are eagerly responded to (including by Madonna herself).

It's a comedy and it's a laugh. The humor, some spectacular car chases and crashes, the things you expect in such an original piece. Madonna plays like she's a cartoon character and that's fine. That is why it is also 'signature' that the opening credits are effectively animated with a Madonna persona that is reminiscent of Betty Boo.

In the beginning of the film, she kisses the poster of Elvis (in Jailhouse Rock outfit) on the wall in prison. And that's a nice summary of what this film stands for: humor, music, camp, unpretentious entertainment. It certainly also captures a joie de vivre that you find in many eighties films. It is also worth seeing the New York of that time again.
