"The Time Has Come."

Once upon a Time in Mexico is a film with a special arsenal of famous actors against a beautiful backdrop. Unfortunately, that also requires a good story. I felt the inspiration but it was a bit unfortunate on the big white canvas. Really missed opportunity this.

I can appreciate over the top action with a comic touch, especially if it's done with a clear wink. I like the first two films in the Mariachi series. This closing is clearly less. However, the sets, the music and the atmosphere are still standing. And Banderas continues to be a huge badass in this role.
Unfortunately, the film has a much too complicated story, which I don't see the need for. The mariachi's revenge for the murder of his family could have been a great story. Nice and simple. But bring in drug cartels, the president, and also the CIA and the FBI? Less is more in this case, it doesn't get any more cohesive. Another great role from Depp.
I am left with mixed feelings. Quite entertaining, but unnecessarily complicated. The movie didn't need that. 3 points for the action scenes, the music and the setting.
