In the 21st century, the earth is overpopulated and extremely polluted. The world government forbids having children. In order to be able to do something with parental feelings, many couples adopt robot children. A couple decides to secretly have a child and thus break the law. But it doesn't take long for the neighbors to find out...

Weird and weird. Quite dated and visibly made on a low budget. It is very convenient that the world is heavily polluted by smog, so you can just film your outdoor scenes in thick layers of smoke. Saves on scenery costs. And if you want to show a big city, in the pre-CGI era that is done a bit too obviously with miniatures. The story also has quite a few unbelievable aspects.
However, there are quite a few interesting ideas in this film. The exhibition, for example, in which the everyday reality of the moment the film was released has been turned into a museum piece. Notably, the main characters play actors performing 1970s skits. There are also many details about what life is like in the film's dystopian society. And a beautiful ending.
Clearly better than the much better-known Logan's Run, as far as I'm concerned. But ultimately, it is nothing more than a fairly interesting, relatively unknown film for people with a soft spot for these kinds of grim movies about the future. Not a must-see.

The film looks cheap in terms of sets, but the idea behind it is daring and extremely melancholic; the acting reflects this completely, even to such an extent that it comes across as alienating, until the moment the baby enters the story. Then it starts to become much more interesting due to the cat-and-mouse game with the neighbors, the emotions, and the tension that this generates.
I think the film is quite realistic at certain points regarding human interactions in such a dystopian world.
