Priest O'Reilly tells the story of Lazaro, an orphaned boy who lives in a remote part of the Amazon. He never knew his father, who was a missionary, his mother was killed by prospectors. O'Reilly himself takes the boy to the civilized world and puts him in an orphanage so that he learns to survive in the modern world.
