Le Roi et l'Oiseau plot
King Charles the 16th rules the kingdom of Takicardie. Charles is a feared king, he rules like a tyrant over his land. Only a spontaneous, chatty, brightly colored bird that resides in King Charles' huge castle is not afraid of him. His nest just happens to be next to one of the king's secret chambers. Charles has his eye on a young shepherdess and plans to force her to marry him. However, this beautiful shepherdess does not like the cross-eyed but vain king, she is already in love with the brave little chimney sweep. She goes on the run with the chimney sweep so she doesn't have to marry the tyrant. They end up in the highest tower of the palace, where they hide. There they rescue one of the bird's children from a trap. He is grateful to them for this rescue and decides to help the two. Meanwhile, the police are using all possible means to get hold of the two refugees.
