A Hora da Estrela plot
A girl from the northeastern Brazilian countryside, Macabea, moves to the big city in the hope of a better life. However, life in the city turns out to be very hard. She finds a poorly paid job as a typist and is forced to live in a room with a number of other women. By adopting western habits she keeps her dream alive. Then she meets a man, also from her region and also full of dreams.
