"Adventure Beyond the Edge of Time"
Professor Peter Saunders, leads a team of scientists to recover a sunken Russian nuclear submarine. However, a tidal wave capsizes the platform they work on and only a small group survive. They are rescued by Mike and Washington, two Vietnam veterans, after which they are stranded on an island. Death and destruction await them there, at least if it is up to the terrible Crystal Skull and his tribe. The struggle for survival has begun.

Nowadays, it's occasionally wonderful to watch some creative pulp from the 80s. Creating a cross between Indiana Jones, Rambo, and Mad Max with barely any budget is remarkable, to say the least. The script, of course, makes no sense, and every few minutes you're pleasantly surprised by yet another creative twist.
In short, it all makes no sense. But it remains a really fun cult movie.
For fans, it is now available to watch on Netflix.

This is one of those movies where you spend the first 20 minutes wondering what it's about. One ridiculous plot element after another is thrown into the mix. Something about Atlantis or something about nuclear radiation, mutants, or Apocalypse, I have no idea.
Everything builds to violent orgies, after about 40 minutes the story runs out, and we can enjoy that familiar stupidity. Oh, and the terrible special effects made me laugh out loud. Of course, it was filmed in the Philippines, and as is well known, you could rent everything from the army there for very little money. This results in quite a few unnecessary "chopper" scenes.
Don't think about it too much, or it'll really start to hurt your brain. But now I have to think about a review. That's not easy. It all looks decent, but it feels a bit too much like a disjointed mess. What I liked about Cannibal Holocaust was that it had a certain tension and raw brutality. That's missing in this film.
It often looks a bit like the A-Team, with lots of explosions without casualties and men falling into the water, pretending to be hit by a random hail of bullets. Carelessly scattered among hordes of bad guys. Well, that makes it all a bit meh.
But it could be much worse or more annoying, it's quite bearable for a euro trash. 2.5 stars
