Another pretty decent '80s horror though. The first half is still pretty captivating. Especially the location choices are strong, because both the old mine and the house of the main characters and the local bar are pretty atmospheric locations.

The intro is quite long though. Now the two male protagonists are still entertaining characters, so you don't get bored as a viewer. Still I have the idea that the tension could have been kept a bit higher by a few more POV shots and a more suspenseful soundtrack.

What would have helped a film like this would have been a slightly higher body count, but I can imagine that this was not possible with the available budget.

'The Boogens' themselves are a poor appearance, especially after the viewer has had to wait quite a long time for the reveal.

Since I have a soft spot for 80s cheese, I still had a lot of fun with this.

A sympathetic monster movie that has to rely on a camera that haunts a basement for a long time. Apparently something comes out of the mines and it eats away. You only see what is behind the silly roar and the tentacles towards the end and maybe that is for the best. Sympathetic because of the dog, who gets a lot to do, and the cast. Quite a loyal couple, nice small town atmosphere with some snow and in the mines it gets more fun when they find water. Nowhere big, there is nothing that sticks and little juicy horror, but all in all a pleasant, typical eighties creature feature.

The film does need a lot of time to get going, but once that has happened it doesn't really matter anymore, the film is still somewhat entertaining, the tension is built up reasonably well but nothing much happens for a long time, the acting is fine and the location and the wintery landscape of Utah provide the atmosphere.

It's a nice view but nothing more than that.
