What a stupid plot description. They don't even know at first that Dracula's body was taken by anyone in the first place, but hey.
This film, which bills itself as Universal's sequel to the '31 classic 'Dracula', fails on all counts as far as I'm concerned.
The opening scene is particularly clumsy with a lone Van Helsing in Dracula's castle. The incompetent cops have to provide some humor, but in my opinion they miss the point.
Furthermore, Gloria Holden does not provide an exciting succession to Bela Lugosi. Her character is supposed to arouse pity rather than fear, but one succeeds in neither.
In addition, one can wonder what they have done with the other characters from the original Dracula story besides Van Helsing. They have simply been replaced by other characters, namely a shrink and his assistant. Otto Kruger and Marguerite Churchill provide some nice teamwork, but do not know how to carry the film.
Other than that I think this is a very static vampire movie. Nowhere the gleaming of white teeth, the flying of bats or ominous looming fog. The howling of wolves is the only thing we can do with and I think that is very scant.
Even for the short 71 minutes that the film lasts, too little happens to keep it interesting. A very mediocre sequel that should not even be in the shadow of the original film.

The sequel to the classic from 1931 in which this time the story revolves around Contessa Marya Zeleska, the daughter of Dracula. Dracula is dead after the events of the 1931 movie and that's the biggest problem with this movie. It doesn't feel like a Dracula movie.
The characters are all weak and I didn't think anyone stood out who did an even better job. There is no tension, and if something interesting is about to happen, it is again something for the imagination. In terms of atmosphere, it is also mediocre, nowhere could it match the strong atmosphere of the classic.

Little tension, but atmosphere but that doesn't save the film, there just isn't enough happening, there is a lot of talking but in terms of action and scaryness there is very little to enjoy.
