Very bad movie that I even liked in the past. Rod Daniel already made the disgusting Home Alone 4 and this one is really bad too. With stupid kids with annoying voices. 0.5 that I liked this.

They seem to have already made eight Beethoven films. This sequel came very quickly after the first, because it was a big hit. The director of Teen Wolf took over the direction and he was lucky that the original cast is back, which makes this film feel different from such a later made sequel with completely different characters. Kind of the same case as with Home Alone. But just like Home Alone 2, Beethoven's 2nd isn't nearly as fun as the first film. The film - as is often the case with quickly made sequels - is frequently repeated, only this time a little more. So not one dog, but five. In addition, people go on holiday halfway through the film, so the location also feels slightly different. But otherwise, much of the first film's script just seems repurposed.

So again the eldest daughter has a thing for a boy, the boy is bothered by being too small and father is mainly busy with his work and he can't stand the dogs. And of course there are villains again, this time played by Debi Mazar and her boyfriend Chris Penn. That they are the villains is no secret, by the way; the first seconds that Mazar comes into the picture it is immediately clear that she is the evil witch. Her face - and especially those eyebrows - are set to 'evil mode' by default throughout the film. They're pretty good villains and the bickering between her and Penn is funny at times, but they're not Platt and Tucci, let alone a Dean Jones. There is sometimes a bit too much childish slapstick. But still, Beethoven's 2nd is anything but disastrous. It is a safe, innocent family film with few surprises, but the film has enough sympathetic moments or scenes that are worth at least a smile. And every scene with Charles Grodin is already worth watching.

3 stars.

Watched part two and this time the focus was more on a romantic story instead of comic. So the film had fewer jokes, but in terms of story it did not disappoint, especially with these kinds of films. It is of course predictable, but I did not find it disturbing.

It was nice to see the same cast again.

A bit of a different approach but didn't really think it was that bad.
