Sally Hemings: An American Scandal plot

The startling relationship between young Sally and widower Thomas Jefferson begins in Paris. Jefferson is the United States ambassador there. Sally ends up in Paris by traveling as a servant with Jefferson's daughter. The young slave from Monticello, who can still read and write, ends up in a completely different world. She works as a nanny, but Jefferson makes sure she gets an education, nice clothes and culture. Sally and her brother James, who was also trained and employed by Jefferson, enjoy being free and treated with respect in France. This is the setting where Sally and Jefferson meet. Their love affair would eventually cause a scandal.
