Due to a misunderstanding I got this film instead of The Vampire Lovers (1970), I thought it was strange that Peter Cushing never showed up.

Kiss of the Vampire was fortunately entertaining and atmospheric. The film started off a bit slow after a great opening, but was very entertaining after that. I thought the ending was a bit rushed compared to the build-up, but that happens more often.

The Vampires in this film are something different from the usual Hammer vampire. They have white capes instead of black ones and can tolerate sunlight quite well. They also have a kind of cult. The vampire hunter also performs a kind of ritual here instead of walking around with a wooden stake.

The bats at the end were perhaps too much of a challenge for the budget and again did not look very good. Furthermore, the film was well shot. Especially the castle and the cemetery were very atmospheric, too bad that the story takes place largely outside of it.

What makes the film especially atmospheric is the beautiful soundtrack by James Bernard. Nice to have seen once in an evening, but I know much better Hammer horrors.

Those old Hammer horror movies are often very stylish and this is no different. I may have seen a restored version, but even then I enjoyed the camerawork. A bit garish and stiff for some, but it is British for a reason.

Furthermore, a standard story of a vampire lord of the castle who invites people etc. It is not very innovative. Here and there some piano intermezzos, partly to emphasize the atmosphere. Furthermore, some references to a Satanic sect, which was surprising. Little blood present in the film and no gore at all. Quite tame and, as said, stiff.

The bats at the end were special. Well, the fakeness was dripping off, but actually that had its charms too. Just barely enough!

somewhat different vampire film from the hammer stable, it is not a top film like the christopher lee versions but still quite entertaining, the film starts off rather slowly and is set around a vampire cult in a castle.

the horror is not very impressive but the story is quite entertaining.

This time the victims are a couple who are stranded in a village and whose wife is kidnapped by the vampire cult.
