Not good.

The mix of the dark story and the grim setting with the childishly annoying mice is one that is difficult to explain, except for the animation history of Bluth. In any case, the result makes no sense.

The songs are inappropriate, the characters mostly childish, while the drama does try to be serious and emotional. That's difficult when you're looking at over-animated mice and when the plot is completely predictable. Who ever doubted the end of this movie.

There are a few moments where it is visually nice (the storm at sea for example), but mostly it looks ugly and the excess of animation is more annoying than beautiful. The soundtrack is also so melancholy and stale. Mno, I prefer films that dare to take sides, this kind of half-hearted stuff is not really for me.

1.0*

Very mediocre. It is especially hugely dated; the film feels like a product from the 50s. The film is very well-behaved, but the backgrounds that are very exuberantly painted also look rather old-fashioned. Overall, I don't like it very much either. A lot of faded brown, green, yellow and so on rather dull, monotonous and sometimes even ugly.

The story itself is also not very special with the occasional nice moment, but then they start singing that doesn't feel quite right and the moment is gone again. Fortunately not too long. 1.5*.

Another cartoon that evokes nostalgic memories of my childhood. At the time, it was turned gray as ukkepuk, today re-watched after 30 years or so. Many scenes were still etched in my memory here and there, so that's positive. In itself a nice plot in which the mouse population synchronizes with the large emigrations to (North) America to build a new life. Whether it was from the port of Hamburg, Rotterdam or Antwerp (Red Star Line), these people all had the same goal.

Since the plot is still decent, the animations are a bit disappointing today. The test of time has taken its toll. The songs also don't catch on very well and the sound is often bombastic with impending doom. In addition, the cats - especially the Russian versions - come across as voracious predators, which makes it all a little bit by the hair.

The Mouse of Minsk was nice to see again. And actually I'm glad to have seen it in its entirety again. Nice, but certainly not more than that.
