The movie started quite interestingly with the bombing that killed Joshua's wife and son . This event made me expect more of a revenge theme, but the emphasis was almost entirely on drama. Unfortunately, the film has no tension and you don't have to expect any action scenes either. Aside from the liquidation of a group of people I certainly didn't find this movie raw or harsh to be honest. Mainly boring because it contained too much drama in my opinion and could have had a bit more of the Yugoslav war involved.

Saw it a long time ago and was very disappointed. Now 20 years later I came across the film by accident and got the ghost partly because the film disappointed me in terms of war and I can now appreciate the drama part much better. With that I have also said in which genre this film belongs. In that sense it is hardly a war film, except that it is set in a war zone during the Yugoslav civil war, and much more a drama. A drama, as far as I'm concerned, succeeds quite well in portraying the atrocities committed at that time and the hatred and inhumanity that has been going around there for almost a hundred years. Great drama in that sense and a role that is not really common for Quaid, but as far as I'm concerned he does a decent job.
