Usugeshô plot

When the married miner Sakane keeps for himself a considerable amount of cash, which is actually intended as compensation for the surviving relatives, after an industrial accident in which twenty people are killed, he becomes a different person; the money allows Sakane to indulge his obsession with women, which leads him to commit adultery. His wife finds out, and during a subsequent argument he kills her. Sakane ends up in prison, where he first tries to commit suicide, but later escapes.

A thriller based on director Hideo Gosha's tried-and-true recipe: crime and beautiful women. A bit of chronological tinkering does give the film an extra dimension, but I doubt it improves. It's a solid story nonetheless, though it could have been a bit more exciting. Nevertheless, it's an entertaining film.
