“By putting this on, you have started a chain reaction that could bring about the next apocalypse.”

“You, lighten up.”

Nice. The Mummy Returns has that adventurous atmosphere that I can always enjoy, and the sets also look impressive. Fraser and Weisz remain a nice couple, and Hannah and Vosloo are also doing well. That son is not too good, and the same goes for The Rock as The Scorpion King. The special effects at the end are really abysmal. But the good feeling prevails, although the stretch is now gone. Fortunately, Weisz was aware of that too.

Decent sequel.

Even director, and so the same lousy special effects as in part 1. But Sommers still manages to create a pretty catchy adventure atmosphere that is brought with such a pace that you can hardly get bored during this film.

In any case, Fraser and Weisz will return to the roles. I can't say that I think they play very well, but they certainly have charm. O'Connor as Benny Gabor was my favorite character in the previous part, but he's gone now. Unfortunately, Sommers is unable to find a suitable replacement. That guy certainly doesn't come close, despite his enthusiastic acting.

Actually in almost every way a repeat of part 1. Same adventure, same villain and same atmosphere. And yet it works again. Clearly a bit more budget now, resulting in more beautiful sets, but the adventurous atmosphere is especially the key in the film.

However, any kind of CGI is ugly. But also really ugly. Especially scorpio-Johnson, god that was bad. It's remarkable how this director couldn't really put down a reasonable form of CGI in any form. There really isn't a single scene in here with any good form of CGI.

It also takes a relatively long time at 130 minutes, but it is not boring and it is set up on a grand scale. Curious how the next part will be with a different director at the helm. In any case, thoroughly entertained with this adventure film. But good is something else. A little less magic than part 1, a little too little creativity in the story and disgusting CGI.

Just going.

Slightly less than the first movie. That son in particular is a sad addition. He gets into John Hannah's way too much - that's an idiot for comic relief. In any case, sequels often have to watch out for too many characters, because in addition to the original cast, there are usually some names added.

Other than that, it's progressing just as smoothly. As a kid I probably liked this one better than the original. That is no longer the case, but some scenes are still worth watching. One has to take for granted that a lot of scenes with special effects today have been grandly overtaken by time. It may also be a bit of the charm of these films.

2.5
