The Creeping Garden plot
In 1973, a blob-like substance that resembled a cross between a fungus and an animal surfaced in Texas. This resulted in some speculation about a possible form of extraterrestrial life. But we were actually introduced to a particular species of slime mold: a rare and resilient organism, enhanced by a primitive intelligence, that moves slowly around forests. With images of macroscopic time, the documentary takes you on a journey full of petri dishes and fungal collections, framed by scientists, artists and designers who collaborate with the fungus to create musical compositions and to understand future population shifts.
