Very intense movie. Great acting: a gigantic drama without overacting, think again. Most impressed by the young Tremblay, though Larson is also rock solid. Amazing how believable this bizarre story is presented. Small recommendation.

Room (2015) is an intriguing drama about a mother and her four-year-old son who are locked up in "room". As the film progresses, it becomes clear why and how to proceed.
The film focuses on the mother-child relationship from both perspectives. The script realistically goes into psychological depth. Being locked up in a small space naturally takes its (psychological) toll. The roles are cleverly played by Brie Larsson (Ma/Joy) and the young Jacob Tremblay (Jack).
Cinematographically, the film is modest. There are no special camera movements, original edits or breathtaking (expensive) sets in the film. The quietly rippling minimalist piano soundtrack fits in with this, as well as with the simple life in room.
I found it striking that although the kidnapper bears the name of the devil (Old Nick), it is portrayed in a human and quite calm manner. This contrasts with his bestial behavior. I was also worried that he would take revenge on Joy, but how her escape went is not shown. The director clearly chooses to give the perpetrator little attention (screentime), which immediately distinguishes this film from the thirteenth in a dozen psychopath film.
The ending of the movie was beautiful and will stay with me. Jack closes room according to the psychological book and that he also says to his mother: "say goodbye to room" in other words: "close this chapter so that you can continue with your life"

Pretty strong.
Pretty loaded drama, which feels very uncomfortable just because of the premise. By approaching everything in a claustrophobic way, the film is emotionally even more oppressive. Perhaps that claustrophobicity is also just the reality for the victims of kidnapping.
The dynamics inside are strongly portrayed. Not that I like to watch a screaming child, but it would be strange if there were no moments in between. Brie Larson is also simply strong in her role. The young Jacob Tremblay is also okay, but perhaps a year or two too old to put down a boy of only 5 years old.
The escape comes quite suddenly and is also very easy - the main thing was that that guy didn't check to see if the boy was really dead and he actually doesn't. Everything after that also appealed to me. On this page you can read that certain things have not been worked out properly. That's right, because the added value of the broken grandparent family remains rather vague, but at the same time I'm glad it doesn't go in the direction of the syrupy drama. A lot of aspects are highlighted, before and after, without too much false sentiment, which makes Room a good film. There might not have been more in it, but it is, for me at least, good.
