The Trap plot
Canada, early 19th century. The brutal fur hunter Jean La Bête is looking for a wife. He takes Eve, a deaf-mute girl, to his secluded cabin. Here Jean tries to win the trust of the reluctant and scared Eve.

Enjoyable film from the mid-sixties with adventurous scenes and not dated at all.
Well constructed and with two excellent protagonists.

Why the woman had to be absolutely mute (not deaf and dumb because she does hear) is a mystery to me... This also has no further function. With a speaking woman, this film would have been much more qualitative. Jean La Bête's overacting didn't convince me either. What a peasant Neanderthal. Nicely shot and typically a family film for the school holidays. Living in a log cabin in nature... so romantic.
