Ju-on 2 plot

Actress Harase Kyoko knows nothing about the curse 'ju-on', which is created by the resentment of someone who dies in bad condition. When it turns out that she is pregnant, she considers quitting her job. Still, she accepts a job on a paranormal television show, for which she goes to a ghost-infested house. In this house a woman was once murdered by her husband and their six-year-old son has disappeared without a trace. All the people who lived in the house after that have inexplicably died. Soon, Harase's friend is in a car accident and she has a miscarriage herself. Yet she feels that something is still alive in her stomach.

Yesterday I finally saw this one and it was indeed scarier than the last one, much scarier in fact. Not at all less than part 1 as most claim.

The image is indeed, as said, a bit sepia, a bit brown blur-like tones, but that makes it even more exciting.
It starts scary right away with that white guy who is between the pedals of the car and for the rest we immediately get into the grim Grudge atmosphere. I now also understood more what all those strange noises were supposed to represent and what that curse exactly means. Speaking of those strange noises: at first I didn't know what that banging was supposed to mean but later I knew with the icing on the cake Kayako pulling Tomoka up from the ceiling by her throat with her hair. Typical of those open endings

And we also get to see the nightmares / hallucinations of Chiharu and you only think it will come to an end because they are sooooo scary. Are those nightmares over, relieved, oh my gosh they start again.

And I almost shit my pants at the scene with that wig coming over that stain and Kayako coming out with jerking movements and in that delivery, jeeeezus, it looked like kayako wanted to crawl through the TV my room. EEEEEK

And has anyone noticed this somewhere at the end when Kayako's story begins : at that moment that someone wants to investigate that house or something I don't remember who should you look at the top right and then you see Kayako looking out the window. Must be an easter egg.

I was right, this one is scarier than the first and that's putting it mildly.

Like part 1, this one gets 4.5* stars

You have been warned!

It's a mystery to me that people think the second movie is more scary than the first, because apart from the fact that the guttural has gotten a bit deeper, there are very few real scares and the special effects ruin a lot. In the first film, these weren't that strong at all, but the actress who plays Kayako was able to easily resolve this with excellent facial expressions. Now that computer effects are suddenly used, it all looks much more fake and therefore a lot less scary.

The film is also absolutely not bad and can compete with the original part in terms of story and acting. The way the curse unfolds is very interesting and the way Kayako appears through that wet spot is definitely a nice addition. It is therefore such a shame that I have not felt that fear that took possession of me during the first part.

Spotted by accident, thought I had put the US version on.

I haven't seen the first Ju-on yet, it doesn't matter because it's not a sequel anyway. The American, on the other hand, I did see, but it wasn't much. Was expecting more from the Japanese variant anyway.

And this is one of the creepiest movies I've seen. This is not so much due to the creatures, but the whole atmosphere, the realistic appearance and the squeaking and creaking sounds ensure that you do not feel at ease for a second. The gurgling creature and the little boy are terrifying, but especially as a whole it actually gets on the nerves.

The acting is not good and visually it does not look good, although the latter is functional. Ju-on is just creepy, nothing more, nothing less.

Thick 3.5*
