Nice movie with a lot of dark scenes. It has a bit of the plot and mysterious, almost goofy vibe of older horror movies, mostly thanks to some weird characters like the owner, the janitor and the tall old neighbor. Was surprised that it is only from 2004, nice to take a look.

Seen it for the umpteenth time and I still maintain that this is a very entertaining slasher by Tobe Hooper. Nice atmosphere and some nice characters (small role for Sheri Moon Zombie too). An entertaining kill here and there. All made for an apple and an egg, that's clear. That is why I think that literally the entire film takes place within the old building. Nice and cheap. What makes Toolbox Murders just that little bit better than the real average slasher is clearly the last half hour. Then the film really takes off. The killer gets some nice screentime, there's some effective gore and typical Hooper set dressing. What is especially striking is that it seems to have been made in the 1980s. That is not a criticism by the way, I thought that classic slasher vibe was one of the nicer things about these Toolbox Murders.
