I do give the same rating as the first part, but I actually found this a bit less interesting. Only at the beginning with all those naked men in the sauna hitting each other with branches, I could laugh. I know, it's part of it, but that doesn't make it any less funny. For the rest it is pretty much the same circus. There are again many references to the Roman Empire, or at least to classical ideals, and that produces beautiful images. You can clearly see where Riefenstahl does her best to shoot really nice pictures, but the story is rather uninteresting. Having said that, I must also confess that I find sport immensely uninteresting. The decathlon could really be stolen from me. I do see the value of Olympia, but I think it's really boring.

Mwa, I often missed the tension, the gigantic audience, the close-ups, which I did have in the previous part.

Still holds up, and there are moments that were unique to me in the sense that I had never seen hockey with a goalkeeper without a face shield (and in India even with no protection at all it seemed to me), I had never seen a ground drill without somersaults and flikflaks and ... .

Good, but it didn't have the impact that "part 1" had for me.

Edit: Perhaps the most special thing was that while swimming I clearly saw some swimming breaststroke and other butterfly, in the same race .

Almost 90 years later, the sporting performances during the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin are no longer the reason why you watch these two films (parts 1 and 2). Still as a historical document and to view the film art of Leni Riefensthal. That is indeed impressive. Although she occasionally goes wild, especially in part 2, with her 'poetic impressions', which you shouldn't look too much into.

A lot has changed in the sporting field and many sports are no longer part of the Olympic program. Good thing too, because there are quite a few militaristic sports in the second part of this documentary. But also images of the sailing competitions in Kiel, swimming and football. It is striking that it is mainly a European sports party; apart from the US and Japan, the rest of the world hardly seems to participate. The Netherlands, consistently referred to as 'Holland', does not seem to be able to break much ground either.

Part two also features sports other than athletics, although sometimes rather sparse. Rie Mastenbroek and Willie den Ouden are mentioned in swimming, but in the margin. These Olympic Games were mainly Games where Jesse Owens shone and won four gold medals. The Germans were not so happy about that, a negro, of all things. You also notice that in this film. In this second part, Riefensthal can let off steam. Her trademark: man in a frog's perspective (from bottom to top) against dramatic clouds. But the images of the fencing matches are beautiful, starting with the fighting shadows of the fencers. But all in all: still a very long sit.
