Film adaptation of a true and controversial Belgian court case in which a businessman is suspected of robbing an opera singer. During the interrogation, he tries to save his skin by shifting the focus and blame to the investigating judge who would have ordered him to kill his wife and who is also the big man behind the robbery of the opera singer.

Faber stars as hustler Jules Depraeter, who is on trial together with investigating judge John Jensens [André van den Heuvel] and garage owner Henri Vannoote [Dirk de Batist] for involvement in an attack on Jensen's wife [Florce Jamin]. During the trial, Jules expresses his outrage at the turn of events, but shortly after he sits down he grins straight into the camera. Rademakers immediately makes it clear that something is wrong. In flashbacks we discover how Jules managed to trick Henri, Jensens and many others. Gerard Soeteman mixes the facts of the infamous Jespers Trial (1977-1978) with fiction in this fascinating, excellently acted crime drama.
