The Missing plot
"How far would you go, how much would you sacrifice to get back what you have lost?"
New Mexico, 1886. A father returns to his family decades after leaving them to live with the Apaches. It turns out that his wife has long passed away and that his now grown daughter no longer has any understanding or feeling for him. However, when her daughter is kidnapped by some bandits, father and daughter join forces to fight them.

In this solid western there is no place for the romanticized, clean-shaven macho, who, contrary to the reality of the time, plays the leading role in many westerns. Instead, an authentic-looking film, which also deals with an issue that, to the best of my knowledge, has so far been largely underexposed: the kidnapping and trafficking of white young women in the American Southwest. Well, I'm no western connoisseur, but as far as the theme is concerned, only the John Wayne film The Searchers (1956) comes to mind.
Be that as it may, Ron Howard has made an exciting film on that subject, which, partly due to the thorough acting of Tommy Lee Jones, Cate Blanchett and little Jenna Boyd, captivates from start to finish. A notable role also by Eric Schweig as the ruthless “El Gross”. Westerns aren't really my favorite genre, but I had a great time with this movie.

This film shows the knowledge and skills of Ron Howard. With a fairly luxurious cast, filmed in a beautiful setting after a fairly rough but good story, this was another original western for me. A downside I found the duration; some scenes were too slow for me.
