Jack Fate is a musician who wants to breathe new life into his stalled career after a prison term. Uncle Sweetheart (John Goodman) is a promoter who tries to organize a pop concert for charity. Tom Friend (Jeff Bridges) is a jaded reporter, enlisted to write a story about the concert. But Sweetheart isn't exactly the epitome of honesty and plans to put the concert's money into his own pocket.
