Very different from Gordon's horror fare. There's a lot wrong with Robot Jox: the soundtrack, the acting, the annoying US vs. USSR theme, and the ending, to name a few, but this film has so much camp that it suddenly becomes very entertaining. The robot battles are a lot of fun and even look good at times. I had a great time.

3.5*

Brol.

Some shots of the mechs are good, and there are some funny details. But on the other hand, there are also plenty of ridiculously cheap shots, making the mechs look like ridiculous cardboard boxes.

The design is also rather mediocre, but it's mainly the static battles, both man vs. man and machine vs. machine, that really make no sense. I've seen some mech battles before, but when you see two giant robots in one square, you expect more action and flexibility. It results in completely ridiculous scenes.

Furthermore, just about everything about this film is bad, from the props to the music to the acting. For fans of this kind of mecha fodder, there are better films.

Gordon and SF, they really don't mix. It's also quite annoying that there are always a few hicks and hillbillies involved.

Edit: final battle was a bit like Porco Rosso.

1*

Seen on the Arrow bluray from the Empire of Screams boxset.

Sort of a prequel to Power Rangers, but without the great soundtrack. The fights were as slow as shit. They should have cut that space battle; it looked laughably bad. The rest wasn't great either, thankfully it was only 80 minutes long.
