If I were to kick the shins of our dearly beloved northern neighbours, I would leave the only response here: 'I didn't understand a word of this!' Luckily I had read the book, because a lot of scenes (especially those with Robert) were completely unintelligible to me.
This isn't a bad movie, but it isn't a really good one either. The book was very fragmentary and anecdotal (with a lot of flashbacks within flashbacks), which means that the film is also one big mess from a story point of view. It's beautifully shot (that opening scene with the sperm!) and contains some original ideas, but the story just sinks in. Why does Armin say so quickly that he is not Bo`s father? I found that very tactful and with that it is immediately done with the beautiful father-son scenes that were so beautiful in the book.
And I was also annoyed by the acting talent of some cast members and by the horrible Dutch accent that Jan Decleir uses here.
Not bad, but could have been a lot better with such an intriguing plot.

I quickly set it up last night, since I have a literature oral essay on Tuesday and I want to put the story fresh in my memory. Passion Fruit is one of the few books I have actually read.

The film is not that good, the film itself is not that bad, but there is absolutely no foothold or coherent whole. The film also does not know exactly what it wants, we first play a bit with editing and then again very sentimentally edited, heavy rain showers, walking through the street without an umbrella, you know it. Unrealistic dredge. The cast does play their part believably, that's what my voice really needs, although there are a few awkward scenes, which the actors can't do anything about. Strangely enough, I didn't think the scenes with van Houten came across as strong at all. Bo is irritating, but that could still be seen. It is a film with all sorts of things, because the film comes across as quite insecure, from all the bushes that dare to pick, it comes across as a mess. Not a good movie, but manages to show the story clearly, if it is not equivalent to the book. The film manages to twist some things that are different in the book.

Totally agree with the above post. Where the book really appealed to me (a long time ago), the film is strangely enough without content. Although a lot actually happens, where the necessary emotions are involved, these come across poorly and fairly meaningless. And anyway I have a hard time with the fact that Armin's father is Bo's father after all. Surely no father would do this, especially since they have a good relationship with each other.

2*
