Nice film in which a somewhat crazy father and his daughter go in search of an almost 400-year-old treasure in present-day California. An original story that makes you wonder all the time whether the treasure really exists. And this is what you eventually find out in a surprising way. Michael Douglas makes the film as the insane father and is therefore perfectly cast with his beard and all. Evan Rachel Wood knows how to counteract well as his daughter. A narrow 3.5 stars.

Let us especially remember the successful "crazy act" by Michael Douglas in a completely crazy film that does have something, namely a satirical undertone aimed at all kinds of authorities (The weak action of the police is criticized several times, the ironic statement "I thought institutions for the mentally retarded served to make people better" says enough and the concern about Charlie's eventual fate is quite troubling).

Bought this a while ago for a euro and have now given it a try. He turned out better than expected. I thought it was a fun movie with a nice story. I was fascinated to see what was going to happen. The cast also did a great job. A remarkable role for Michael Douglas, but it worked.

I didn't really have any expectations, but it was a fun movie. It was something different for once.
