"Hope never quits"
Freddie Steinmark (Finn Wittrock) is a 74 kg defenseman who helped the Texas American football team win the National School Championship in 1969. Steinmark is usually ignored by competitive school scouts because of its small size. Darrell Royal (Aaron Eckhart), Longhorn's coach, however, sees potential in him and gives him a scholarship. However, after Longhorn's biggest win in years - a miraculous 15-14 comeback against Arkansas - Steinmark's joy is spoiled by a leg injury. After further examination, it turns out that he has a serious illness.
