Unearthed madness! Holy fucking shit. What madness. Unearthed already has a great reputation in this corner of the genre, but Stephen Biro (founder!) had to add a little extra. Add a little extra to the Guinea Pig series? That's quite a challenge. The series that was looked at askance; this must be real?! With his American Guinea Pig, however, he knows how to live up to expectations. We're just waiting for the first reactions, ''how can you watch this''

In collaboration with Marcus Koch (Special Effects hero; Sweatshop (2009) and among others the recent We Are Still Here (2015) are on his list). Started with the fourth part of Toxic Avenger (another Troma find, so) and has since made a great number of contributions to tastemakers in the underground circuit. Mostly published by Unearthed. Anyhow: he did it again! And how..

This American Guinea Pig: Bouquet of Guts and Gore is one of the most crude, uncompromising snuff splatters ever. The ending really pushes the boundaries of tastelessness, but the rest is all in the service of the gore. It is a kind of showreel of what can be done today. So it certainly has its value, also as a film. Moreover, supported by a strange, deep humming soundtrack and shot entirely in old school atmospheres.

Bore

With only gore images and 0.0% content

I'm not convinced by a good horror/splatter/snuff movie.

A cheap movie meant to shock....I succeeded, I'm shocked at how bad this is.

The gore is nicely done but the image is deliberately made so bad that I can't really judge that part either.

This was fun when the "faces of death" series was hip....when we were like 12 and secretly watched this kind of stuff.

Now such things make little impression, especially when they are presented in such a meaningless manner.

I'm sure that's the intention, I hear the fans thinking, but as far as I'm concerned it can go in the trash...hoppa

Half a star for the effort.

Director Stephen Biro clearly found the Japanese predecessors interesting and decided to give them his own twist in America, which he starts with a film that is quite similar to Flowers of Flesh and Blood. The title alone is more or less a repeat of that film, only Biro commits himself a bit more to the snuff element. He opts for a cheap look and the complete focus on torture, with little room for any form of comedy and/or madness. Many of the practical effects are very convincing, but Biro doesn't seem to fully understand that the extremely short running time was to the advantage of the source material back in 1985. Bouquet of Guts and Gore has a much too long run-up and doesn't want to become very interesting anymore after half an hour of hacking and slicing. When the knives and saws come near the victims' faces, it also becomes clear that there was still a lot to learn in terms of effects. For the effective grimness and unbridled focus on disturbing images, half a point extra, even if it is very close.
