I think they should have called this film "The Gill Man." The monster looks less like a prehistoric creature than a man in a rubber suit and a fish mask. And it certainly doesn't look like a monster that can split a crocodile in half, as the film suggests.

A nice quote:
"What I'd give for a tall cold beer."
"Or a short warm blonde!"

And Clint Eastwood in his first small role:
"There were four rats in there when I changed my lights, now there's only three. It is my considered opinion that rat number four is sitting inside that cat."

Not only do we witness Clint Eastwood's first steps as a movie star, but we also witness the studios exploiting the film's success. I thought "Creature from the Black Lagoon" was one of the best monster movies of the 1950s. This mediocre sequel, however, failed to captivate me.

2.5*

A great sequel to Creature from the Black Lagoon. It's a Jack Arnold film, so that means it's all well-done and the monster gets plenty of screen time. A fantastic monster, too. The monster is captured, and of course, the gill man escapes, having developed amorous feelings for Lori Nelson. There's also 20 seconds of screen time for Clint Eastwood's debut as a lab assistant who's lost a rat.
