Baseball and the Beast

Nostalgic film about a group of young people who are having the time of their lives and still look at the world around them simply and innocently. You miss that when you're an adult . Reminds me a lot of Stand by Me because of the childhood memories, the beautiful summers of the sixties and the youth friendships. The bond between the children is not as strong as in Reiner's film, because here too much time spent on the whole thing with the dog and not enough on the bond between the young people themselves. The humor, on the other hand, is quite present and it is the non-baseball related antics that are the most fun, for example Squint showing off. resuscitation by the busty lifeguard and the chewing tobacco scene at the fair. As a baseball film it is not that spectacular but it will keep children quiet for a while..

Cujo and Stand By Me in the blender with The Little Rascals: The Sandlot (also known as The Sandlot Kids) is a personal childhood sentiment, this video tape used to be regularly taken home from the video library. But even after a revision, this amusing family film still stands up. Summer film with a typical 60s atmosphere about a lot of young wiseguys. The film is 95% about baseball, but even if you have nothing to do with the sport you can have a great time. Main characters Guiry and Vitar are very sympathetic and the other kids play fun, colorful characters, especially Renna and Leopardi, who were together in The Big Green two years later. That was also a youth sports film, but it was about football.

3.5 stars.

Nice movie that doesn't take itself very seriously. Looks great, whether you are young or old. The film delivers a wonderful feel-good atmosphere, which makes it a shame I didn't see it in 1993. There is no youth sentiment here. On the other hand, a wonderful reference to the past, when the only worries were that your ball ended up in the neighbor's garden (in my case it was a football, but basically the same "problem" as a baseball).
