I received this film as a gift (at least this one in the box) when I purchased the series (Titanic) that is currently being broadcast on Veronica.

The only funny thing about this film is lifting the ship and the idea that it is still completely intact!!! Although it would seem hylaric to me if they really salvaged the Titanic.

Maybe at that time (1980) it was completely crazy...

The acting is mediocre, the score is just nice and old-fashioned and present. Still, I have to say that they did a nice job recreating the ship and it also looks reasonable.

A downer from me is, how could they put this film in the titanic box if the series has to be so true to life...and then add a sci-fi film with it!!!!

Oh well, I was off the streets again for a while and was still able to enjoy myself "reasonably", although it actually has very little to do with the Titanic.

From me this film gets a 2.0*

Mediocre film, not really interesting. Cliche mediocre main characters, even Anne Archer is out of place. Dirk Pitt in Cussler's books should have an appearance... In this film the level of son-in-law you just don't want... Skip or you really want to see SF about the Titanic...

Well, I thought it was all quite nice, with a solid cast, a professional appearance, nice underwater scenes and a reasonable pace. As my predecessor said, also very romantic music by John Barry with quite a few echoes of 007 in the beginning, and a nice but unnecessary supporting role by Alec Guinness whose ultra-short presence (exactly 5 minutes and 30 seconds) does not prevent him from appearing on the cover of my DVD is mentioned first. It's a shame about those models, the submarines in particular look quite like toys (although the eventual resurfacing of the ship does look good). Good leading role by Richard Jordan, nice to see Chief Clifford from McCloud (who remembers it?) in a supporting role, and the twist at the end really reminded me of Hergé's Scarlet Rackham's Treasure). Not bad at all, although the film was ignored by the public at the time and criticized by the critics (with predictable metaphors using terms like sunk and disaster).
