"Kevin Bacon is Jack Casey. He traded in his three-piece suit for a ten-speed and the streets."
Jack Casey used to be a whiz kid in the stock market, but after a bad decision his kingdom was over and he found himself forced to take a completely different tack. He becomes a bicycle courier in New York City and risks his life every day to deliver packages through the busy city traffic. The question is whether he can build a new life on a more solid basis in this way. Soon he is looking for new thrills in racing taxis and buses and falls in love with his colleague Teri. When it turns out that the bike couriers are being abused by drug dealers, he will need his speed and intelligence more than ever...

Empty film: little action, seems to go nowhere, not a spark of romance, a dumb gangster. I don't understand how I ever liked this. Although, it is a naive teen movie and I was once a teenager myself...

A decent film in which a stock trader loses all his money and starts working as a bicycle courier. A thin plot, but the protagonist, who chooses what he truly wants, is portrayed well enough (and Kevin Bacon does a good job in the lead role). The bicycle stunts provide a number of nice scenes, accompanied by a typical 80s soundtrack.

As a film, it is just a weird thing and quite substandard – the storylines don't make sense, the timing is inadequate, and it just doesn't really come together. The characters also remain very superficial; it all amounts to nothing – although the target audience at the time would have liked to forget that by the last minute or so, the footage of a laughing Jamie Gertz and Kevin Bacon in, ahem, how do I put it, a 'minimally partially undressed state'.
But as a snapshot of the era, it really is all amazing. From the ugly synthesizer beeps to the cars, the girls with big-hair hairstyles and the nylon navy sweater with Bacon shoulders. But also the madness of stock trading at the time, the absurd old computers and all the hassle that went with it.
Giorgio Moroder in the soundtrack, check.
