A nice film in which Chan has to play a tough police officer.
The film is very underrated in the US.
I give it a 3.0 because there is nothing wrong with this movie.

I saw Chan's version. In Cantonese, too, so I didn't hear much swearing. But I doubt whether that makes the film so much better. Maybe just a little less bad or something, because this one is really hard to get through.
It starts off particularly badly. Anyway, that whole intro with the truck robbery is a mystery to me. At first, I thought it was about a dystopian future, with those weird punk gangs. But apparently, that was only in the intro.
The quality rises just a tiny bit when Chan travels to Hong Kong, but even there things don't really pick up. Poor acting and rather wooden action scenes ensure the film never really gets going. Neo already mentioned the chase on the Chinese boats; that's truly the perfect scene to illustrate why this film doesn't work. Lots of pauses, little coherence, and it really struggles to move forward.
Nah, a Chan you'd better skip, not really worth the effort. The best scene was actually that messing around in the gym.

Revised on the new 4K release from 88Films. This includes the 95-minute US cut, the 92-minute Hong Kong/Jackie Chan cut, and a recently discovered print of the extended 97-minute Japanese cut. The latter is the longest version, a hybrid cut with exclusive outtakes from the film.
Just like with Lo Wei, there was some unrest on set because Jackie had so many ideas and suggestions that Glickenhaus wanted nothing to do with. "I am the director, and we are going to do the film my way." Glickenhaus wanted to portray Jackie as a kind of foul-mouthed Asian Dirty Harry. Jackie didn't like this at all and even wanted to quit the film halfway through. However, he was under contract with Golden Harvest, who had hired Glickenhaus, so he was told over the phone that he had to finish the film.
The opening scene starts somewhat strangely in an almost post-apocalyptic setting, with the feel of The Warriors as those gang members strike in their outfits, but also of The Terminator with all the fog and blue lighting. It feels a bit out of place with the rest of the film. There is also something to criticize about the robbery scene in the bar. Danny Aillo has a small double role/cameo here as a bad guy who gets shot and ends up on the pinball machine. Later, of course, he becomes Jackie's partner. The towering bad guy with the goatee snorting coke is Big John Studd, a professional American wrestler.
The Jackie Chan Cut remains the superior version for me to watch. All the nudity and swearing were cut, and several long shots were drastically shortened for faster pacing. Additionally, a lot of fight scenes were reshot, Hong Kong style, so they are many times better. The fight against Bill (Superfoot) Wallace is by far the highlight of the film. Wallace was the undefeated champion in full-contact karate.
