We naturally miss the Percepto effects in the home cinema, but with a bit of creative use of the electric fly swatter, that should still be manageable.

The first half is a fairly typical 1950s horror film, but in the second half the film goes completely wild, and here we are, some 55 years after the premiere, still quite perplexed.

3rd place in my 50s horror top 10 (after Night of the Demon and Them!)

Yep... Vincent Price again, who, however strange that may sound, has only come into my spotlight in the last year. Before that, the man was known to me, but his films were unknown. And I must say that this actor has managed to convince me in his roles every time so far. This little work might be a bit weaker, but the premise is original. A few nice touches and a surprising twist. 6.5/10

Unexpectedly fun.

It doesn't happen often that these kinds of old films score higher than a 3.0* with me. But fortunately, The Tingler is an exception to that, and Vincent Price proves once again that he can deliver a good performance. Of all the older icons, Price is therefore my favorite.

In the first part of the film, I didn't immediately get the impression that I was going to like this very much. Price plays the good guy here (sort of), and that usually suits me a bit less than his iconic villain roles. But he does a creditable job, of course.

It is only in the second part that the pace picks up, and the film features a number of strong and atmospheric scenes. Although the beginning naturally sets the tone in a humorous way, the second part offers several other fun, atmospheric scenes.

Scenes such as Evelyn’s horror trip, the colored blood-red hand in the bath, and of course the finale in the cinema make The Tingler just a little more enjoyable than its genre peers. Above all, it ensures that the film rarely manages to be boring and thunders along at a good, high pace.

Moreover, that little creature is of course a classic character from the old movies. It looks awful, but remains super charming. I found the first part uninteresting, but thanks to the second part, I found it a pleasant, short, and entertaining viewing experience.
