Along the African coast, Lord Clayton and his wife are shipwrecked and end up in the jungle, where some time later Lady Clayton will give birth to a son. After the death of his parents, young Clayton, who was raised among the apes, measures his intelligence against that of his environment. He becomes a grown young man, selected by the apes as their leader. Twenty years later, Belgian explorer Philippe D'Arnot discovers the adult ape-man and sets out to raise the boy...

I must say I was not bothered by Tarzan's approach, for the simple reason that I never felt pity (in the condescending, "pathetic" sense) for Tarzan, and that in turn was due to Christopher's portrayal. Lambert, who I normally think is an absolute turd of an actor (high on my list of actors whose films I try to avoid just because of his or her presence) but who gives Tarzan an excellent shape here, with good facial expressions and a lithe and beautiful sculpted body that does not give the impression of coming straight from the gym. Two supporting characters stand out : Ralph Richardson belies his advanced age (you wouldn't say this would turn out to be his last film) and Ian Holm plays great as ever – like John Hurt, that's someone we're going to miss when he suddenly appears. will no longer be able to perfectly fill an essential supporting role, from Ash to Bilbo. James Fox, on the other hand (an intriguing actor nonetheless) seems to be swimming in his role, and that a few years later Andie MacDowell would suddenly star in a series of successful films (Sex lies & videotape, Green card, Groundhog Day, Four weddings and a funeral) you wouldn't be able to imagine based on her playing as Jane (not counting that infamous dubbing). Anyway, as for my final verdict, my knowledge of Tarzan doesn't extend much beyond the "Tarzan bundolo!" from the Tarzan-Classics comics of the past, and if I don't take into account the official background of Edgar Rice Burroughs (as explained very read by Brix above on September 15, 2009), then I see here a serious and warm film that certainly makes curious renders to what the full "cut" would have looked like.

Good film about a boy who grows up among monkeys after his parents have been shipwrecked. A beautiful story that is approached here quite realistically and with quite a bit of tragedy. The movie certainly looks good (all the decor and locations), despite some of the jungle scenes being shot in the studio. Christopher Lambert is well cast and for Andie MacDowell this film marked her debut (even though it is dubbed here by Glenn Close).

just beautifully played by the france actor christopher lambert in his portrayal of the jungle man or the man who lived with the monkeys tarzan. I've already seen some, but in my opinion you can't compare this film with all those other Tarzan. he thus plays with feeling and he brings to life another tarzan with in some fragments emotion with a heart. tarzan enters an environment he does not know and that causes confusion people try to change him but he does not feel very at home in this world gradually he starts to hear more and more the call of his home. I thought it was a very good beautiful film I have never seen this man in any role so handsome and good playing someone with so much passion and feeling as in this film. when it will ever be for sale on blu ray i will definitely buy it because for me personally this is the second best tarzan movie ever
