Funny and unique movie. Some mixed feelings, but I really liked it in the end.

Benoit, as said before, is a great character. Poelvoorde plays a wonderful role, which actually strongly reminded me of Patrick Bateman from American Psycho, only this film is a lot grimmer. Incredibly smooth, arrogant bastard, but really played with verve. His facial expressions now and then alone .

Some scenes that were quite hilarious, like the one with the old lady and the rape scene. I personally like that kind of black humor. All positives so far, but still I noticed that my focus really slackened at times. Some scenes, such as those bits with Benoit's family and those meals in between, I found a lot less successful and secretly was waiting for the next murder scene. I thought a lot of those funny scenes, like I just mentioned, were in it again, and I think it would have done well if the film had just been a little shorter. I also didn't think the ending was that strong.

Perhaps this is one of those films that you will only really appreciate when you see it the second time. I think he's good, but not great or anything. A spacious 3.5*.

My first acquaintance with the actor Poelvoorde, and also the best role I have of him

have seen. Particularly natural as a criminal psychopath, who with an insidious charm

winds up a camera crew and drags them complicit in his immoral,

decadent everyday escapades. Haughty arrogance is not alien to the character, who

visibly enjoys the attention of the camera and who likes his talent as a robbery criminal

displays. The close-to-the-skin camera work (At times also astonishingly good)

adds to the shocking realism. A challenging, confrontational film, and

probably not suitable for the faint of heart. At least I was on the first viewing

completely flabbergasted.

revised. The funny and at the same time grim mockumentary has lost little of its punch and is barely dated, probably because everything looked like it had walked right out of the 70s when it was released in 1992. Benoit van Poelvoorde is truly sublime in the lead role and thanks to him there are many memorable scenes and monologues. Here and there he trots on a bit, especially in his semi-pretentious poetic drivel that gets a little too much screen time, but apart from that there is little to fault in the film.
