The year is 1901. Attractive and educated 25-year-old Joanna Selby from New Orleans arrives in the South American jungle to join her second husband, the fortunate cocoa plantation owner Christopher Leiningen. Joanna married him by proxy through his brother. However, their two characters immediately clash and when Christopher learns that she has already been married once, he wants to send Joanna back. But the message from the local commissioner that devastating ant colonies are on the way throws a spanner in the works.

Good film in which a woman travels to the jungle to meet her husband, whom she has never seen before. Some ambiguous dialogue that isn't exactly subtle, but entertaining. The same more or less applies to the relationship between the man and woman (a bit exaggerated, but entertaining). During the last part the story becomes a lot more adventurous.

Good adventure film in which Eleanor Parker can shine as the new husband of the rich plantation owner
Leiningen (well played by Charlton Heston), he initially treats her quite coldly and when she is told that he has been married before, he is completely angry.
Her steadfastness and sincere character eventually thaws him, although this also involves a crisis in the form of the ant army.
The play between Parker and Heston is good, the ant plague is more than spectacularly depicted and by modern standards the spectacle remains solid.
