Bizarrofilia plot

Argentina is a country with an extensive and varied film culture. Within this enormous diversity lies the rare, atypical "bizarre cinema". This documentary explores the origins and meaning of the word 'bizarre', how time leads to reinterpretations of some works, and focuses on the contemporary production of films that seek to distance themselves from reality.

It is too hot. I would have been better off sitting on the beach with a towel or on a terrace with a white beer, but I opted for an obscure documentary about Argentine exploitation films. I repeatedly wipe the sweat from my forehead. 'Bizarrofilia' (2024) scores a very solid 8.2 on IMDB with ten votes. I don't think it's that good myself, because it is mainly a standard overview documentary with talking heads. The interviewees also seem to be exaggerating their own contribution to Argentine cinema somewhat. But thanks to my own bizarrophilia, I can nevertheless fully enjoy gigantic phalluses, abominable computer effects, third-rate puppetry, and cheap body horror. On top of that, it isn't even that bad that the Dutch subtitles on Amazon Prime are so clumsy that I don't always understand the interviews myself. Like a bizarre fever dream through the unknown.
