Paikar plot

Afghan artist-filmmaker Dawood Hilmandi returns home from Amsterdam after a great loss to mend the bond with his authoritarian, aging father, an imam and former mujahideen fighter. But has the distance between father and son become too great to bridge?

Dawood Hilmandi, born in Afghanistan in 1987, received a strict upbringing based on military discipline from his father, a mujahideen. Dawood and his siblings are now scattered across Europe, but he longs for understanding from and a better bond with his father. In this documentary, he visits his parents, spends extra time with his father, and attempts to build a better understanding through conversations about the past. It is heavy-handed, but beautifully filmed. Moreover, it is a striking portrait of a family torn apart by civil wars and uncertainty regarding security at home.
