Amidst a raging hurricane, a coastal community fights for its survival. They are besieged not only by the destructive forces of nature but also by the relentless threat of sharks. A decent film in which a small town is rocked by a tsunami caused by a severe storm. A fairly standard setup for this disaster movie, where the shark is a fine addition. It all looks pretty good, but water remains tricky for CGI. An easy watch that certainly isn't too long and occasionally comes across as delightfully clumsy, but not much more than that.

This film started out titled The Rising, then in 2024 it was renamed Beneath the Storm, in 2025 Shiver, and then in 2026 Netflix just bought the rights and rightly named it Thrash. The Guardian gives it even less, saying "cursed shark thriller sinks like a stone" and that the streamer often acts as a home for the unwanted goods of others; I completely agree with this.

This is a very bad, annoying, unbelievable film with terrible CGI, on the level of much of what has been on Netflix lately...

The film tries to be too much, and given the limited running time, it all comes across as half-baked. A disaster movie, a drama, a pamphlet on climate change (at the end I was even reminded for a moment of the superior Beasts of the Southern Wild). That doesn't work. Themes feel tacked on too much, the visuals are sparse, and the CGI is very mediocre. The drama also relies on clichés. Nevertheless, it is nice and short with a good pace, so the film isn't all that tedious. 2.0*.
