Not the first film about the 1973 coup in Chile. But this one looks at it from a different perspective. A military captain who has completely adapted to the military hierarchy—where you follow orders from those above you—is ordered to convert a hangar at the airport where the training takes place, into a place where people are arrested and imprisoned immediately after the coup. The question is: does your own morality clash with the military hierarchy, and what do you do then? The film is heavily focused on this small, limited story and dissects it very precisely. The film is based on the story of a real captain. Hangar Rojo is shot in black and white and manages to be almost claustrophobic. Highly recommended.
