Jake Wade used to be an outlaw, but he is now on the right path and is even a marshal. In a neighboring town, Wade frees his former outlaw friend Clint Hollister from prison in return for having saved his life in the past. Their paths diverge again, until Wade is confronted with the kidnapping of his graceful fiancée Peggy Carter by Hollister's outlaws. Hollister knows that Wade must have hidden some stolen loot somewhere, and he forces Wade to take him to the place where the stolen money is buried. The search is not without problems, partly because they travel through the territory of hostile Comanches.
