I quite liked it, but mostly a messy movie...

There are some fun moments in the movie, and some good action too.

But the story is messy & the special effects... well... They really should be much better in this day and age

A bit the same feeling as the first Mortal Kombat movie, could have been much better.

Now let's hope the second one does better this time too.

An unbalanced adaptation of the video game that never manages to choose between a serious action movie and over-the-top camp. It doesn't mix quite right. It doesn't help that the film is poorly put together. That tournament is a farce. The characters you want to see fight are only seen lashing out in bar brawls, and the entire plot involving Akuma overshadows the Bison story (miscast), causing the film to run half an hour too long and have two plots too many. Naturally, one of them has no ending, resulting in an inevitable open ending. What a blunder it would be if the film flops and there is no sequel.

During the film and afterwards, you mainly wonder one thing: couldn't a better film have come out of it if they hadn't gone completely with the anime style of the intro and the flashbacks?

Director Kitao Sakurai's approach to pure action entertainment is spectacular, but his substantive contribution is nil. Street Fighter aligns with the notion that video game adaptations are actually harder than expected, and this film, too, certainly comes across as incredibly messy, especially in the second half. The plot is sometimes so unfinished that entire motifs are changed without context, making the story almost impossible to follow, despite the full commitment to the visual side and the extended running time. The acting is otherwise decent, but many cast members simply cannot stand up to the bombastic tone. Furthermore, Street Fighter relies primarily on the action sequences, which are delivered very convincingly. It features a fairly stylized design, with only a few mediocre computer effects working against it.
