The interplay between drama and horror is indeed somewhat predictable, and it is a shame that so many films within that genre go down this path, but director Angela Gulner surrounds herself with a number of excellent actors and actresses in The Beldham. Katie Parker and Patricia Heaton, in particular, deliver strong performances in roles that are not easy, although they are somewhat let down by Gulner's lack of atmosphere. The few jump scares feel forced, and the use of color as well as the camerawork are not striking enough, but the underlying concept is well thought out and the approach is still surprising. Certainly not the worst within this type of film, but on the other hand, not noteworthy enough either.
