Boorman and the Devil plot

On paper, it made perfect sense: hire John Boorman, fresh off hits like "Deliverance," to make a sequel to William Friedkin's 1973 horror hit "The Exorcist." In practice, however, the resulting film, 1977's "Exorcist II: The Heretic," proved to be a disaster on every level. In the decades since, however, the tide has turned somewhat, and the reputation of the once-hated sequel has evolved. This documentary delves deep into the film's promising origins, its troubled production, and its overall complicated history.

A fine documentary about one of the most reviled sequels ever, Exorcist II: The Heretic. A candid John Boorman speaks at length about the how and why of the ambitious but hopelessly failed film. There are also funny interviews with lead actors Linda Blair and Louise Fletcher. Actually, their presence alone is enough, and the other interviews with people like Mike Flanagan and Joe Dante are quite superfluous.
